Content That Converts – You Have 8 Seconds

The average person’s attention span today is just 8 seconds. Meaning you have just a few seconds in which to grab potential client’s attention.

In “How Can I Create Content That Converts?,” you learned that the best way to grab a reader’s attention is through the Inverted Pyramid style of writing. https://eminetwork.com/uncategorized/tips-for-creating-content-that-coverts/ This style provides the most important information within the first couple of paragraphs. The reader still obtains a general idea even if they don’t read the whole post. This structure also allows the readers to get all the essential information: the who, what, when, where, why and how, in only the first couple sentences.

Creating content with the inverted pyramid in mind also ensures that you’re offering immediate value to your prospects, and they are more likely to continue reading.

Here are three tips to keep in mind:

1. Write a Hook

Remember the movie Jerry Maguire and the famous line, “…you had me at hello”? Just like Dorothy Boyd, Renee Zellweger’s character, you want to hook your reader at hello.

A hook is a tagline, slogan, or saying that’ll immediately grab the reader’s attention. The hook is always at the beginning of your blog, post or article. It will entice your audience to keep reading.

Your hook should also include target keywords. Providing target keywords allows for two things: It keeps the reader engaged and it provides better SEO. When writing your hook be creative but remember to include all the important information.

Examples of strong hooks can include facts, quotes, or questions. For example, did you know that you only have 8 seconds to capture your reader’s attention? My hook worked if you are reading this section of this week’s blog. Yeah!

2. Use Target Keywords

As mentioned in tip 1, Write a hook, include key words within the first few paragraphs. SEO keywords are words or phrases mentioned in your content that make it possible for people to find your site, blog or article through online search engines.

Key words will also keep your audience engaged. If your content builds on the key words or information that they searched and wanted to learn more, they will continue to read.

When determining what keywords you should use, there are many tools out there that can help you with your research. But remember, you know your niche and you know your competitors. It’s always best to start there when determining key words.

3. Write for “Skimmers”

I am guilty. I am a skimmer. If you follow our blogs, you’ve probably guessed this by the way we structure all of the content we produce.

I’m not alone. Research shows that most people don’t read a blogpost with same attention to detail they would a novel. In fact, according to the Nielsen Norman Group over 80% of people skim all content found online.

Readers look for keywords, bullet points, numbered points or statistics that match what they’re searching for. Keep this in mind when writing your next blogpost. Use items such as headlines, subheading, short sentences, and lists to draw attention towards the main points.
