How to expand your network through content marketing

With technology right at our fingertips connecting with people online has never been easier. We can post or blog from the comforts of our own home or office. But how do you make these connections online meaningful? And how can you market to build your network?

Here are 3 tips to help engage your prospective clients while building mutual trust. These tips are not new or innovative, however, they are often missed content marketing opportunities.

1. Generosity

It’s challenging to connect when behind a screen versus face-to-face, therefore try and be as personable as possible through online platforms such as emails and social media. And although it might be tempting, don’t just try to just promote your brand and products, the key to effective networking is being generous.
Networking should be all about other people and their needs. The best way to form a meaningful connection is when both parties feel equally acknowledged and valued.

2. Keep Your “Enemy” Close

You may see your competitors as the enemy when it comes to fighting for audience attention but working with the competition can actually be beneficial for both parties. We all know who our friendly competitors are, and combined efforts allow for more resources which can lead to some great content that’ll help build your target audiences.
While your competition and you will have to share credit, your name will also be attached to the content. That content will be shared on a range of channels, including theirs, allowing you to put your brand and expertise on display for a new audience.

3. Make New Allies

Now that you know how to leverage your friendly competitors let’s focus on your allies. You can create allies with conferences, organizations, or complementary companies. Alliances can be made anywhere really.

For example, try and connect with a conference or event within your industry and ask how you can help market or promote it to the public. Or reach out to local nonprofits by using your competencies to promote their causes.

Whatever you decide to do, building mutually beneficial relationships with these new allies can really help your content marketing efforts to take off. By offering a hand to others, you create a stronger mutual beneficial relationship to share advice with.

Networking is one of the most valuable ways to grow your business. It’s something that you are likely doing already. The key is to think of mutually beneficial ways to help each other better market through collaborative content.
