IWD 2021 – Take Time To Celebrate!

Although 2020 was a rough year, women made some incredible strides in equality and taking time to celebrate is extremely important. Just a few examples are Kamala Harris becoming the first female Vice President and Scotland becoming the first country to allow free and universal access to menstrual products.

For over a century, International Women’s Day has marked a day of celebration and advocacy for women’s rights and equality and this year no exception. The internationalwomensday.com platform adopts an annual campaign for a call to action for gender parity. This year’s theme is #ChoosetoChallenge.

“A challenged world is an alert world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world. From challenge comes change, so let’s all

CHOOSE TO CHALLENGE.”

Business leaders play a huge role in shaping the path towards change, but it’s also up to each of us individually to get involved and there is no action too small to get started.

An easy way to celebrate is by taking part in the #ChooseToChallenge social media campaign. Take a photo of yourself raising your hand high and share it on social media platform using #ChooseToChallenge and #IWD2021.

Another simple but effective way to celebrate is telling other women “thank you.”
Thank your mother, your grandmother, your sister, your aunt, thank your friends, thank any and all women who have impacted your life for the better. Tell the women in your office you appreciate all of their hard work and thank them for being a role model for younger girls.

So, THANK YOU! I’m celebrating you today; all you have done, all you plan to do and all you are doing to make your mark in your industry and in the lives of other women.
Catalyst.org says that not having a visible role model makes women feel moving into a leadership-type role is unattainable. So thank women for leading the way for our future generations.

According to the World Economic Forum, none of us will see gender parity in our lifetimes. It is expected that Gender parity won’t be attained for almost a century. Although a sad statistic, let’s do everything we can to lessen the gender gap.

Raise awareness about women’s equality, celebrate the achievements of other women, lobby for accelerated gender parity, fundraise for a female focused charity, and support other women in the workforce.

But most importantly, take time to celebrate YOU. By being a woman in leadership, you’ve empowered young women and that’s a huge accomplishment for future generations. Make IWD 2021 your day and do what you can to make a positive impact for others.

In celebration, I am extending a discount to all women business leaders. Please take a few minutes to explore EMI’s women’s platform. https://www.eminetwork.com/women-in-business/

Our platform features a program that showcases women in business and their expertise. The program draws attention to women leaders and their businesses, inspiring readers to explore and celebrates women’s successes.

Regardless how you choose to celebrate, choose to embrace this year’s theme and challenge yourself and others to push the boundaries. Everything you do matters!
